A fundraising matchup between the baseball and softball teams at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Thursday ended in a 5-5 tie.

Eagles softball coach Sterling Holmes pitched to both teams. The teams played with a softball at the softball field.

The baseball team led 5-1 at one point but the softball team, which reached the NCISAA 1-A semifinals, came back.

UNC Greensboro signee Delaney Cumbie did not play for the softball team after undergoing minor knee surgery on Wednesday. Her recovery period is expected to be two to three weeks.

With two out in the bottom of the final frame and a runner on third, baseball shortstop Wesley Jackson fielded a grounder and threw to first to preserve the tie.

The plan for the matchup was to have fun and raise money to support both spring programs. Each objective was reached.
