A strong second half lifted Harnett Central Middle to a 20-7 football win over visiting Dunn Middle School on Wednesday.
Tay-Shawn Moore ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Raiders (2-0).
Chris Hampton ran for an eight-yard touchdown, Eric Martin had a four-yard run and Camauri McDougald ran for four yards on three carries.
Jaeshaun Murchison completed a 15-yard pass and ran for 54 yards on seven carries for Dunn. Trejon Lindsey ran for 45 yards and a touchdown on eight carries for the Greenwaves (0-2).
Jadyn Sorrell ran for seven yards, Nathan Williams ran for five yards, Torrey Williams ran for one yard and Avery Ellington had a 15-yard reception.
Central looked to score first late in the first quarter, but on the final play of the quarter, Dunn’s Ryan Graves recovered a fumble. That led to a 65-yard drive that lasted nearly the entire second quarter, capped by a two-yard touchdown run from Lindsey. Carter Daughtry kicked the extra point.
Central took the advantage with a pair of quick scores in the third quarter. On the opening drive of the quarter, Moore ran for a 59-yard score and the two-point conversion. After the defense held the Greenwaves to a punt, he scored again on a 55-yard run. The conversion was no good.
Dunn looked to even the score early in the fourth, getting the ball inside the Central 10-yard-line, but Cion Kelly made an interception and nearly returned it for a touchdown, with Murchison making a touchdown-saving tackle at the Dunn 8-yard-line. Hampton ran it in for a touchdown on the following play. The extra point attempt was no good.
Harnett Central travels to Highland and Dunn travels to Overhills on Wednesday.
