CFCA Eagles bestow honors

Cape Fear Christian Academy presented its annual athletic awards on Thursday night in the school gym.

High school Athlete of the Year honors went to Josh Gilliam for the boys and UNC Greensboro softball signee Delaney Cumbie for the girls.

In middle school, Athlete of the Year honors went to Reid Miller for boys and Claire Parker for girls.

Parker also won the middle school Scholastic Athlete honor for the girls. Trey Tripp won that distinction for the boys.

High school Scholastic Athlete Honors were presented to Collin Parker for the boys and Kristen Bass for the girls.

The Eagle Award, which encompasses athletic achievement, academic performance and community service, went to Sarah Ter Meer.

Seniors received their banners which were on display in the gym.

New varsity boys basketball coach J.D. Johnson was introduced. Johnson guided Statesville Christian to a 27-6 record last season.

CFCA headmaster Karen Parker (left) presented Mary Macon Gilliam with an award for years of service to the Booster Club.

Lolita Tripp (left) received an award for her work as interim athletic director at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year.
