CFCA gets varsity sweep over Freedom on Senior Night

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys basketball team rose to the occasion Tuesday on Senior Night with a 61-55 Sandhills Athletic Conference win in overtime over Freedom Christian.

Ramiro Arrillaga had 22 points as the Eagles improved to 18-13 overall and 3-6 in league play.

Lucas Capalbo had 12 points and E.J. Bethea scored 11. Riley Adams contributed nine points. Dillon Butler had five points and Marcus Owens finished with two.

The six seniors who were recognized before the game scored all of CFCA’s points. Cheerleaders Emilee Adams and Anna Gurkin also were honored on Senior Night.

Post player Michael Okoye, who has been out since mid-December with a knee injury, was also part of the Senior Night ceremonies.

Capalbo, Arrillaga and Bethea dropped big free throws in the extra period after regulation ended in a tie at 50.

The Eagles halted a six-game losing streak that started with a 78-76 overtime loss at Freedom on Jan. 11.

The CFCA varsity girls, who have no seniors, took a 55-41 victory as Kristen Bass provided 22 points and Talisha NcNeill tossed in 16.

Meredith Taylor had 10 points for the Lady Eagles, Aubree Bass scored five and Anslee McLamb had two.

The Eagle junior varsity boys were edged, 52-50, on a last second drive by the Patriots.

DeShawn Woods had 16 points in the setback. Owen Gregory scored 15 points. Zeke Brock totaled 14 points. Jakson Cullen had three points and Reid Miller added two.

CFCA opened with a 55-48 middle school boys win as Brock scored 25 points and Cullen tallied 21. Wyatt Medlin and David Clearman had four points each. Eli Burns netted one point.
