Wyatt Avery pitched a 1-hitter as Coats-Erwin’s middle school baseball team defeated visiting Shughart, 17-2, on Thursday, April 11.

Coats–Erwin is in first place in the Harnett County Conference with a record of 6-0. Shughart fell to 0–6.

Avery struck out eight Blackhawk batters while walking only one. Both runs were unearned.

Tucker Reagan and Jamari Thompson led the Falcons offensively with two hits apiece. Braxton Davis, Tucker Brown, Jaleel White, and Zachary Roberson added one hit apiece.

Catcher Gavin Klein played very well defensively, throwing out two Shughart baserunners in the third inning.

Following their Easter break, the Falcons return to action on Thursday, April 25, hosting Highland.
