Coats-Erwin Middle School opened its football season with a 28-7 win on the road against rival Dunn on Wednesday.
Eligah Holmes ran for three touchdowns and J.J. Cowan ran for one TD for the Falcons (1-0).
Jaeshaun Murchison ran for the lone touchdown for the Greenwaves (0-1).
The Falcons took advantage of a pair of Dunn miscues to score twice in the first half.
In the first quarter, a Dunn fumble led to Holmes running for his first score and then running for the two-point conversion.
A muffed punt return by Dunn in the second quarter, recovered by Cowan, led to Holmes scoring his second touchdown. The conversion attempt was stopped.
Coats-Erwin added two more scores in the third quarter on runs from Cowan and Holmes. The first conversion was stopped, but Jamari Thompson ran for two on the second.
Dunn’s lone score came in the fourth quarter on a run from Murchison. Carter Daughtry kicked the extra point.
Dunn travels to Harnett Central and Coats-Erwin is at Highland on Wednesday.
