DURHAM — Duke scored twice in the opening 33 minutes and went on to defeat Campbell 2-0 on Tuesday night in men’s soccer at Koskinen Stadium.

Daniele Proch and Issa Rayyan scored for the 17th-ranked Blue Devils (7-3-1), who won their third in a row.

“It was not our best performance on the season to be honest,” said Campbell coach Dustin Fonder. “We were flat to start the game. They punched us in the mouth, but we did wake up. In the second half our response was good and we created some chances and were unlucky not to get something out of those. But when you go on the road against a top-20 team like Duke, you’ve got to be ready to play from the start.”

Campbell (5-5-1) handled Duke’s high crosses without consequence all night, but twice in the first half the Blue Devils strung together passes in the attacking third that resulted in goals.

Daniel Wright fed Proch in the 27th minute and the nation’s 10th-leading scorer hit a low, left-footed shot inside the left post for his 10th goal of the season.

Duke doubled the lead in the 33rd minute on Rayyan’s low right-footed effort that found the lower left corner of Matt Karasinski’s net.

Campbell’s best opportunity came in the 30th minute when Thibaut Jacquel’s dipping right-footed shot was headed for the lower right corner, but Duke keeper Will Pulisic dove to his left to deflect the ball out for a corner kick.

Duke finished with a 19-4 edge in shots, but only a 4-3 advantage in attempts on target. Pulisic had three saves and Karasinski a pair for the Camels.

After playing four of its last five matches away from home, Campbell returns to the Eakes Complex on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff against Big South rival Winthrop.
