Visiting Riverside Christian took a 19-4 nonconference varsity baseball win at Cape Fear Christian Academy on Monday as the Eagles struggled defensively.

“What should have been a good game, didn’t turn out that way,” said CFCA coach Marty Priebe. I’m Disappointed we didn’t come ready to play.”

The visitors scored nine runs in the top of the first with the help of five CFCA errors. Only two of the runs were earned.

The pitching highlight for the hosts was a scoreless third and fourth from Wesley Jackson that included five strikeouts.

Offensively, Jaden Crumley was 2-for-3, raising his average to .615.

The Eagles left the bases loaded in the second after Wyatt Medlin and Jackson drew walks. Medlin walked twice.

CFCA scored three runs in the fourth. Trevor McLamb started the inning with a walk, Zeke Brock followed with a hit to left and A.J McGarvey drove in McLamb with a single to center. David Clearman had an infield hit to drive in Brock. McGarvey scored on a throwing error by the shortstop.

CFCA is scheduled to host Northwood Temple in a Sandhills Athletic Conference game today (Tuesday, March 26) at 4 p.m.
