Triton’s varsity basketball teams were dealt losses in the first round of the Cumberland County Invitational on Thursday evening.

The Hawk boys were turned back, 68-61, by Pine Forest in a matchup at Terry Sanford. Triton slipped to 4-4 going into a game against Lakewood today at 5:30 p.m. at Terry Sanford.

The Hawks were led Thursday by 17 points from Derreon Burnett and 15 from Emari White. Kalil Hodges had nine points and eight rebounds. Colby Parker had eight points.

The Lady Hawks (3-6) were defeated 48-24 by host E.E. Smith and will take on Lakewood today at 4 p.m.
