Midway takes baseball, girls soccer, softball openers; McLamb scores four goals

Host Midway opened its baseball season with a 14-0 win over Lakewood on Monday night.

Carson Calcutt was 3-for-4 with four RBIs for the Raiders.

Cameron Barefoot and Cal Tyndall each had two hits for Midway.

Chandler Williford started and went four innings of the five-frame contest, striking out nine without yielding a hit. Sawyer Sutton finished on the mound, recording one strikeout.

“The guys played well,” said Raiders coach Jason Fussell.

Midway visits Triton on Friday night.

In girls soccer Monday night, Midway scored five goals in the first half in defeating visiting Lakewood, 6-0.

Catawba signee Kasey McLamb scored four goals for the Raiders in the first half.  Mikayla Peterson also scored in the first half with Quinn Schmidlin assisting. Camryn Page had the goal in the second half.

“A solid defensive performance,” said Midway coach Trey Apperson. “Taylor Brown, Carli Carroll, Addison Apperson, Piper Richardson and Camryn Page all contributed. We did not allow a shot on goal.”

The Raiders host Cape Fear of Cumberland County in girls soccer on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Midway swept its softball matchups with the Leopards to start the season as well, winning 9-7 in the junior varsity contest before rolling to an 18-0 victory in the varsity matchup.

The Raiders are scheduled to visit C.B. Aycock in softball on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
