Terry Sanford’s varsity boys basketball team took a 61-55 Patriot Athletic 4-A/3-A Conference win over visiting Overhills on Thursday night, leaving the two teams tied atop the league standings.

The Jaguars slipped to 18-5 overall and 13-2 in the Patriot despite 23 points by left-handed junior guard Zavian McLean.

Overhills trailed by three points at the half but came back to take a five-point lead in the second half.

“We shot the ball horribly,” said Overhills coach Tony Lewis. “We had too many turnovers.”

The Jaguars must regroup quickly as they host Pine Forest for Senior Night on Friday (Feb. 9).

“Hopefully, we will have a good crowd and that will give us some energy,” Lewis said.
