Dunn rolls in baseball; Coats-Erwin captures softball, soccer

With the two rival schools meeting for the second time in three days on Wednesday, visiting Coats-Erwin won middle school matchups in softball and girls soccer at Dunn, but the Greenwaves took a decisive win in baseball.

Dunn followed up handing Coats-Erwin its first loss of the season Monday with an 18-1 win in five innings in Wednesday’s contest.

Ross Stevens pitched the complete game for the Greenwaves, yielding one earned run on three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.

Anthony Jones led Dunn at the plate, going 4-for-4, including two doubles, with five RBIs and three runs scored. Stevens had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and four runs scored.

Xander Johnson had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Jackson Lanier had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Carter Daughtry had one hit and three runs scored. John West had one hit and two runs scored. Cayden Tyndall had one hit and one run scored. Brock Parker had one hit. Hayden Campbell scored once.

Braxton Davis had one hit and one RBI, Wyatt Avery had one hit and one run scored and Tucker Brown had a double for the Falcons.

Coats-Erwin took a 10-4 win over Dunn on the softball field.

Ava Blackman went the distance pitching for the Falcons, yielding four earned runs on six hits, 12 walks and one hit batter, with 10 strikeouts.

Marley Colville had three hits, including a double, three RBIs and four runs scored to lead Coats-Erwin offensively.

Blackman had two triples and two RBIs. Caylon Avery had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI. Gracie Byrd had two hits, including a double, and three runs scored. Bayley Reagan had one hit and one run scored. Berkley Campbell scored once.

Stephanie Davis had two hits, Reagan Adams had a double and a run scored, Samantha Carter had one hit and one run scored, Lindsay Knoll and Hayleigh Campbell had one hit apiece and Ashley Pope and Takyra McLean scored one run apiece for Dunn.

Coats-Erwin also won a 3-0 shutout over Dunn in girls soccer.

McKenna Moore had two goals and Cameron Conway scored once for the Falcons. Nicole House recorded the shutout in goal.

Dunn travels to Highland and Coats-Erwin is at home against Overhills on Thursday.
