Middle School Football: Coats-Erwin, Overhills win

Tailback Eligah Holmes scored three touchdowns and middle linebacker Nate McKoy led a smothering Coats-Erwin defense as the Falcons rolled to a 30-6 win over Shughart on Wednesday in the Falcons’ home opener.

Coats-Erwin is 2-1 while Shughart fell to 0-2.

Holmes scored his first touchdown on a 30-yard run. Wingback J.J. Cowan added the 2-point conversion to give the Falcons an 8-0 lead.

Holmes added his second score late in the second quarter on a 3-yard run. The two point attempt failed.

The Blackhawks returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for their only score of the game. Coats-Erwin stopped the 2-point attempt, giving the Falcons a 14-6 halftime lead.

C-E quickly made it 22-6 when Holmes took the second half kickoff and raced 73 yards for the score. Quarterback Jamari Thompson added the 2-point conversion.

Thompson capped a fourth quarter Falcon drive with a 1-yard keeper. Fullback James Shaw ran in the 2-point conversion.

The Falcons host Overhills on Wednesday for their homecoming game.

Overhills tops Dunn

Host Overhills returned the opening kickoff for a score and added another touchdown after recovering the ensuing onside kick. The fast start helped OMS to a 36-19 win over Dunn.

Jaeshaun Murchison had three rushing touchdowns for the Greenwaves and Carter Daughtry had a conversion kick.

Ziachia Taylor and Avery Ellington each had a reception for Dunn. Zack Winters and Jadyn Sorrell each had two sacks for the Greenwaves and Ryan Graves had a sack.
