Freedom Christian visited Cape Fear Christian Academy on Tuesday, taking Sandhills Athletic Conference wins in varsity baseball and softball.

CFCA’s 11-0 middle school softball win prevented a sweep by the Patriots.

Freedom, the defending NCISAA 2-A softball champions, was a 7-1 winner in the varsity game as the Eagles were limited to four hits. Jada Horne, who finished in the circle, was 2-for-3. Paige Jeffries had a hit and an RBI. Aubree Bass had a hit.

The CFCA varsity softball team is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Eagles are scheduled to visit Northeast Academy on Friday and play in a tournament at Halifax Academy on Saturday.

Seniors lead Patriots

In baseball, Freedom won, 24-0.

“Freedom Christian is very good,” said CFCA coach Marty Priebe. “They have seven senior starters. They should be the favorites to win conference.”

One of the Patriot seniors, Seth Toler (6-3, 250), pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Zeke Brock lined a single up the middle with one out in the second for CFCA’s lone hit. A.J. McGarvey followed with a shot to right, but senior right fielder Hunter Johnson of the Patriots made a strong throw to first to get McGarvey by a step.

Brock had rounded second and senior first baseman Johnathan Bloomer made a throw that got Brock for a double play to end the inning.

Priebe credited CFCA center fielder Jaden Crumley with several outstanding catches.

Wesley Jackson pitched well in relief, allowing one earned run in one and two-thirds innings.

CFCA is 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the SAC. CFCA’s baseball game Wednesday with Riverside Christian was postponed to Monday at 4 p.m. due to the forecast of unfavorable weather.
