Midway improved to 4-0 with a 53-26 nonconference varsity football win at neighboring Hobbton on Friday night.

Wyatt Holland completed 14 of 18 passes for 226 yards for the Raiders and Deantae Byrd had 22 carries for 192 yards.

Holland ran eight yards for the first score of the game. Byrd had scoring runs of 18 and 4 yards as Midway extended its lead to 21-0.

A 68-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Daniel Britt brought the Wildcats within 21-6 in the second quarter.
The Raiders were in control with a 34-6 lead at the half after a 60-yard TD run by Byrd and a 6-yard keeper by Holland.

Midway totaled 250 yards rushing. Thornton Baggett had five catches for 72 yards in the win while teammate Javen Covington made four receptions for 76 yards.

Grayson Rogers ran 21 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns for Hobbton (4-1). Dacorris Morrison had 21 carries for 117 yards and one score. Rogers completed 11 of 19 passes for 50 yards but was picked off twice.

“Defensively I couldn’t ask for any better effort,” said Midway coach Cory Barnes. “We played our techniques well and were flying around pursuing the ball. There is nothing better than what we did defensively in the first half. And, we also put up some points and got some guys loose on the offensive side. I just wish we had finished better.”

Midway plays in the East Central 2-A Conference while Hobbton competes in the Carolina 1-A Conference.

“They are a big physical team and they kicked our tails,” said Hobbton coach Joe Salas. “We’ve got to get better. We learned that we weren’t quite ready for a heavyweight battle. We’ve got a couple more heavyweight battles coming. We are going to go back to work on Monday and be better next time.”

Midway visits Spring Creek and Hobbton hosts North Stokes in nonconference games on Friday night.

Grayson Rogers (4) was a threat running and passing for the Wildcats.
