Hawk baseball tops SSS, 6-2

Triton’s varsity baseball team overcame an early 2-0 deficit for a 6-2 nonconference win over visiting Smithfield-Selma on Thursday night as Ethan Hedgepeth struck out 11 in a complete game.

Hedgepeth allowed five hits, no walks and no earned runs.

Hitting support as the Hawks improved to 4-1 included leadoff batter Dalen Thompson, who was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Grayson Bradham was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Greg Godwin had two hits and an RBI. Parker Crews had a hit and two RBIs.

Bert Strickland and Christian Tyndall also had hits for Triton.

The Spartans (0-5) scored twice in the top of the first before the Hawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Triton went ahead to stay with three runs in the fifth and added another run in the sixth.

Triton has a nonconference game at Midway on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
