Campbell volleyball nipped by UNCW

BUIES CREEK — Campbell University volleyball came back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth set with UNCW, but the Seahawks took the game-deciding fifth set to win 3-2 (25-18, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22, 16-14) on Tuesday night inside Gore Arena.

Campbell reached match point in the fifth set, 14-11, but the Seahawks scored five unanswered points to win the match and move UNCW’s record to 4-0 and drop the Camels to 0-4.

The Camels reached double-digit blocks for the first time this year, recording 13.0 blocks. Ananda Patterson led the way with six blocks, including two solo blocks.

Both Madee Miner and Sarah Colla logged double-doubles for the Fighting Camels. Miner paired 25 digs with 17 assists and Colla put down a match-high 19 kills with 12 digs.

Allena Heath added nine kills and Melody Paige finished with eight kills; Paige recorded no errors on 16 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage.
Emily Mitter paced the CU offense with 23 assists, while Elyse Gross, who had eight assists, led the defense with 30 digs.

The UNCW offense was led by Kendall Bender who recorded 15 kills. Katie Lanz and Brynn Montgomery nearly splitting the setting duties, finshing with 21 and 20 assists, respectively.

The Camels welcome NC Central Friday, Sept. 6 for a 5 p.m. match inside Gore Arena.
