Triton’s varsity boys soccer team will look to bounce back from a 4-1 loss at West Johnston on Monday night as the Hawks (2-1) host Smithfield-Selma (3-1-1) tonight (September 1) at 6 p.m., weather permitting.
Triton and the Wildcats (3-0-1) played a scoreless first half.
“It was hot as blue blazes and we were playing with a slightly reduced squad because some of our guys that help out the varsity play down when we have JV games,” said Triton coach Brian Foster of Monday’s match. “But West was a really good team that moved the ball very well and had some pretty decent finishers upfront. It was 0-0 at halftime and they had had a few decent chances.
“Once we got a little tired, they began to open us up a little and scored a couple of goals. The boys stayed in it and won a penalty which Benny Villalvazo put away to make the score 2-1. They put a couple past us at the very end of the game so 4-1 was a little unfair, but I was proud of how we fought back. We are hoping to rebound against SSS … but the weather doesn’t look great.”
Triton’s junior varsity won, 2-1, at West Johnston.
