Cape Fear Christian Academy’s girls cross country team finished second in the Sandhills Athletic Conference cross country meet at Golfview Greenway in Hope Mills on Wednesday.

Eighth-graders Allie Wiggins and Courtney Butts of CFCA earned all-conference honors for the second straight year.

Wiggins was sixth with a time of 23 minutes, 59.6 seconds and Butts ran 25:42.3 for 11th on the five-kilometer course.

Trinity Olive was 12th in 26:28.9. Addie Stephens of the Eagles was 19th in 30:24 and Cara Morris was 24th in 35:01.6.

Brandon Surles, a seventh-grader, led the CFCA boys with a time of 21:04.6 for 14th place. Lance Williams was 28th in 24:20. Trey Tripp finished 29th with a time of 25:45.8. Gabe Motschenbacher was 39th in 28:55.1 and Ivan Liang was 41st in 29:50.5.

Liang realized his goal of breaking 30 minutes.

“It was an amazing day and I could not be prouder of these kids,” said CFCA coach Mandy Wiggins.”I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do next week at the state meet.”

CFCA will compete at the NCISAA meet at Olsen Park in Wilmington on October 29.

Brandon Surles, shown in an earlier meet, led the CFCA boys Wednesday.
