CFCA girls top Freedom, 40-32

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity girls basketball team improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Sandhills Athletic Conference with a 40-32 win over visiting Freedom Christian on Thursday night.

The Patriots used a 3-point barrage to pull away for a 110-71 win in the varsity boys game.

The CFCA girls are scheduled to play Richmond County in the MLK Showcase at Terry Sanford today (Saturday, January 15) at 1:45 p.m.

Ella John Dupree had 17 points for the Lady Eagles on Thursday night and Cailee Ray scored 12.

Perri Caroline Ennis had 15 rebounds for the CFCA girls, who went ahead to stay in the fourth quarter on a basket by Laney Trainer, who finished with six points.

Ennis scored three points and Madeline Brocious tallied two.

Freedom was led by 19 points from Alyssa Monroe.

Freedom boys make 15 threes

The host Eagles led 33-32 in the second quarter and trailed, 44-41, at the half before being outscored, 39-17, in the third quarter and 27-13 in the fourth.

The visitors made 15 shots from beyond the arc.

The Eagles (8-8, 1-3) got 28 points from DeShawn Woods, 14 from Zeke Brock, 13 from Jakson Cullen, 10 from David Okropiridze and six from Reid Miller.

Woods pulled down nine rebounds, Okropiridze grabbed eight and Trevor McLamb had six.

Brock totaled 11 assists.
