Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity basketball teams play in the NCISAA 1-A quarterfinals today (Saturday, February 19) after a pair of second-round wins at home on Thursday night.
The CFCA girls (12-9), the seventh seed in the playoffs, visit No. 2 Victory Christian (17-10) at 7 p.m. after a 55-47 win over North Hills Christian (4-10).
The Eagle boys (15-10) visit third-seeded Grace Christian of Sanford (26-4) at 3 p.m. following a 92-48 win over Lee Christian (7-13). The hosts led, 70-30, at the half and the clock ran continuously for the last 16 minutes.
DeShawn Woods had 27 points for the sixth-seeded CFCA boys on 10-of-18 field goal shooting. David Okropiridze had 17 points, three assists and two steals.
Jakson Cullen had 16 points, hitting seven of 10 from the floor.
Zeke Brock added 12 points, 16 assists and five steals. Brock is averaging 10.1 assists.
Reid Miller made all four of his shots for eight points. Trevor McLamb and Jackson Bolton had three points each. Adding two points apiece were Barrett Raynor, Brandon Surles and Lathan Wilborn.
CFCA Girls rally
The North Hills girla came back to take a lead in the second half before CFCA was able to pull away in the fourth quarter. The hosts had jumped out to a 17-11 first-quarter advantage.
Cailee Ray led the CFCA scoring with 22 points and she claimed 12 rebounds.
Perri Caroline Ennis had 17 points and 20 rebounds.
Ella John Dupree and Madeline Brocious each had six points. Dupree had nine rebounds.
Laney Trainer had four points, 12 rebounds and blocked four shots.
