Cape Fear Christian Academy posted three decisive Sandhills Athletic Conference wins over Northwood Temple on Friday.

Senior left-hander Reid Miller pitched a 1-hitter with 14 strikeouts in a 10-1 baseball win at CFCA.

Gracie Byrd and Alexis Crumley each scored four goals as CFCA took a 9-0 girls soccer win on the road.

The CFCA softball team, ranked No. 2 among NCISAA 1-A teams, rolled to a 21-0 home victory.

Baseball

CFCA improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in league play as Zeke Brock, Landon Alphin, Miller, Trevor McLamb and DeShawn Woods had two hits each.

Cason Pope and Cole Godwin had hits. Barrett Raynor had two sacrifice bunts.

“Miller’s performance on the hill and his team backing him up has led us into the break with high hope for the remainder of the season,” said CFCA coach Andrew White. “As a staff, we are proud of this team and look forward to next week.”

CFCA has no varsity games this week due to its Senior Trip.

CFCA had a 15-5 nonconference home win on Thursday over Crossroads Christian as freshman right-hander Alphin had 10 strikeouts.

Brock, Pope, Miller and Godwin had two hits each. Raynor and Alphin had one hit apiece.

Girls Soccer

The Eagles edged visiting Crossroads, 4-3, on Thursday.

“That was a hard-fought victory,” said Eagles coach Michael Breslin after the Crossroads contest. “Things are coming together nicely. Players are getting more comfortable in their positions and are working well together as a team. We’ve been working on using the width of the field and that paid off as our attacking midfielders were able to bring the ball wide down the field drawing their defenders outside.

“Lexie Crumley continues to fight for the ball in front of the opponent’s goal and to seek out chances to score. She had two goals (Thursday) — one with an assist from Ella John Dupree and one unassisted. Gracie Byrd scored on a penalty kick.

“We’ve been helped tremendously by some very talented middle school players. Abigail Taylor has helped shore up the defensive midfield. She works very well with Laney Avery controlling the middle third of the field. Eighth grader Rosemary Sprague is an aggressive attacker who always finds a way to the ball. We were joined (Thursday) by seventh grader Gwynn Young who scored the game winning goal. I’m looking forward to see what this team will do this season.”

Dupree had a goal Friday as CFCA improved to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the SAC.

Softball

CFCA had its game Thursday at Wayne Christian postponed due to wet field conditions.

Kim Bordeaux pitched a 4-inning shutout Friday with one hit and 11 strikeouts as CFCA improved to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Mount Olive commit Mariah Bell had three hits with a home run and five RBIs.

Getting two hits each were Cailee Ray, Rhyleigh Horne and Megan Harrold.
