Terry Sanford won two of three varsity All American 3-A/4-A Conference games at Triton Tuesday, with the lone win for the Hawks coming on the softball field.

Triton’s softball team won a 12-1 rout in six innings over Terry Sanford.

“We could have hit a little better tonight, but we put them together when we needed to put them together,” said Triton softball coach Mark Whitman. “That was the big thing. Some people tonight hit the ball that hadn’t been hitting the ball. We’ve just got to go Friday and handle our business at their place.”

Sophomore Aubree Bass pitched the complete game win for the Hawks (5-3, 5-0 AAC), giving up no earned runs on five hits and no walks, with five strikeouts.

Ava Blackman had three hits, including two doubles, three RBIs and one run scored, sophomore T.K. McLean had three hits, including a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Bass had three hits and one RBI to lead Triton at the plate.

In likely her last time playing for Triton, senior Reagan Bradham had two hits and one RBI. Bradham is scheduled to undergo surgery for a knee injury on Friday and is expected to be out the remainder of the season.

“I’m happy for Reagan (for her performance),” Whitman said. “That was it for her. She’s having her surgery on Friday. She’ll be missed, but I know she’ll be cheering us on.”

Tristan Ennis had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kimah Warren had two hits, one RBI and one run scored. Stephanie Davis had one hit and two runs scored. Ashley Pope had one RBI and one run scored. Gracie Byrd had one RBI. Jaliyah McDougald had two runs scored. Caylon Avery scored once.

Sophomore Naomi Lenz had two hits, senior Chloe Kasnick had one hit and one run scored and senior Kenzie Carr and freshman Brionna McPhail had one hit apiece for the Bulldogs (6-2, 3-1).

Triton scored one run apiece in the first and second innings, three in the fourth and five in the sixth. Terry Sanford scored its lone run in the fifth inning.

Girls soccer

Triton fell 4-1 to Terry Sanford in girls soccer.

Sophomore Emma Stanley had the lone goal for the Hawks (5-5, 3-2), assisted by freshman Bianca Gonzalez.

Junior Abby Sherrill had three goals, junior Ella Reeder had one goal and senior Rainger Pratt and junior Kennedy Isenbarger had one assist apiece for the Bulldogs (3-6, 3-1).

Terry Sanford led 1-0 at halftime and scored three goals in the second half. Triton scored once in the second half.

Hawk baseball takes first loss

Terry Sanford scored four runs across the final two innings to hand Triton its first loss of the season, 4-1, in baseball.

“It was a great pitcher (Nathan Brown) on the mound for them and he just pretty much controlled the ball game,” said Triton baseball coach Jacob Willis. “He worked quick. He came right after us. He was throwing well. And that was pretty much the story of the ball game.

“We did fight. We did battle. That’s what this team does. But at the end of the day, he threw a heck of a ball game that was pretty much the difference maker there.”

The win put the Bulldogs (6-2, 5-0) in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

Junior Ross Stevens, junior Jalen Evans and sophomore Braxton Davis had one hit apiece, junior Anthony Jones had one RBI and junior Xander Johnson had one run scored for the Hawks (7-1, 4-1).

Triton scored in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead before Terry Sanford tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to take the win.

“I wouldn’t even call it a setback,” Willis said. “We’ve just got to keep working. It’s too long of a season. Keep working on our stuff, keep trying to get better and hopefully come back and have a better result. I definitely wouldn’t call it a setback. I’d call it something to learn from and keep rolling.”
