Kim Bordeaux comes home to score a run for CFCA on Friday.
The Cape Fear Christian Academy softball team traveled about 300 miles round trip on Friday to take on Lawrence Academy in Merry Hill. The journey produced a 10-5 victory for the Eagles (9-3).
Six runs in the third inning provided an 8-0 lead on a windy day.
“We had combined team effort throughout the game offensively with Rhyleigh Horne doubling in the first inning to get our first run across,” said CFCA coach Sterling Holmes. “Then Averi Williams hit long sacrifice fly balls early to bring in runs for us that keyed an offensive breakout.”
Williams was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a pair of sacrifice flies.
“It was definitely a team effort on the hitting side with great base running to generate the rest of the runs,” Holmes said. “Lawrence got a rally going in the fourth, … that was short-lived as Mariah Bell made some nice catches in center field to cut it short.”
Getting two hits and an RBI each for CFCA were Kristina Kennedy and Bell. Cailee Ray had two hits and scored twice. Horne, Claire Parker and Kim Bordeaux had one hit apiece.
Ray had a triple. Bell and Horne each had doubles. Horne stole two bases.
“Claire Parker pitched another great game called by the catcher, Cailee Ray,” Holmes said.
Parker pitched the full seven innings. She allowed three hits and five runs (two earned) with three walks and eight strikeouts.
