Triton used a pair of first-half goals for a 2-0 nonconference varsity boys soccer victory at neighboring rival South Johnston on Thursday evening.
Sophomore Elias Lopez put the Hawks (5-2-1) ahead to stay off of a corner kick from Tommy Lopez.
Triton’s second goal came off a long throw that bounced around in the middle before soph Saul Mejia was able to put it away.
Junior Braxton Davis was in goal for the shutout and had six saves.
“It was hard ball game between two teams that know each other very well and love to get after it,” said Triton coach Brian Foster. “We were a little wasteful at times. We could’ve done a little better in front of the goal. It would’ve been nice to have a couple of extra ones for a cushion, but no complaints whatsoever about the effort.
“We’re looking forward to seeing these guys again, because it’s always a good time.”
The Hawks are scheduled to visit Westover for an All American Conference match on Monday at 6 p.m. South (2-3) starts Quad County Conference play at home against Smithfield-Selma on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
