CFCA takes 7-2 girls tennis win at Central

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s girls tennis team took a 7-2 win over host Harnett Central on Tuesday.

Posting singles wins for CFCA were Ella John Dupree at No. 1, Aubrey Jackson at No. 2, Karson Hamilton at No. 4 and Anna Jackson at No. 5.

Lauren Faulkner won for Central at No. 3 and Reese Jeffries won for the Trojans at No. 6.

The winning teams for the Eagles in doubles included Dupree and Anna Jackson at No. 1, Aubrey Jackson and Hamilton at No. 2, and Nina Sauer and Savannah Autry at No. 3.

“One of the best high school girls tennis matches of my career,” said HC coach Jay James. “My girls played really well and the CFCA Lady Eagles showed why they are the best team in Harnett County right now. … The quality of tennis was extremely high.”

James restarted the girls tennis program at CFCA before moving to Central. Page Jackson is in his second stint as coach of the Eagles.

“We played well against Harnett Central,” Jackson said. “We have a very experienced team. Some of our players have been playing varsity tennis for five years and it shows on the court.

“Playing bigger schools will help us come state tournament time.”

The Trojans, 11-4 overall and 3-3 in the All American Conference, host Overhills in a league match today (Wednesday, September 28).

CFCA (8-1) hosts Village Christian on Tuesday and will be looking to finish the regular season against Sandhills Athletic Conference competition with a 4-0 record.
