Despite personnel limitations, Triton’s varsity football team took a 33-20 All American Conference win at Westover on Thursday night.
“We picked each other up tonight,” said Hawks coach Ben Penny. “It was a short week. We had some guys out and didn’t have enough time to get healthy.
“The guys up front on defense stepped up and played a heck of a game. Our leader (Nate McKoy) was out and others, who haven’t played a lot of snaps, picked him up.
“J.J. (Cowan) was limited and A.J. Dewar picked him up on offense and had some big runs. Jalen (Evans, quarterback), once again, led us and had a big night throwing and running.
“Defense kept us in it early and the offense was able to catch momentum later on.”
Evans had touchdown passes to James Shaw and Eligah Holmes.
Cowan, Dewar and Camauri McDougald had rushing TDs.
“Time to heal up and get ready for Homecoming,” Penny said.
The Hawks, who improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, host Western Harnett (0-6, 0-3) on Friday night.
