Cape Fear Christian Academy held Blue-White basketball scrimmages on Friday and the Eagles varsity boys got a pair of wins in a jamboree at Freedom Christian on Saturday.
CFCA hosts its annual Senior Classic beginning today (Wednesday, November 9) with Fayetteville Christian, Lee Christian and South Wake scheduled to participate.
Zeke Brock, who led the state in assists last year as a sophomore with 10.8 per game, had 22 points and eighth-grader Brandon Surles scored 21 in a 54-40 win over Berean Baptist on Saturday.
“It was a great defensive effort in the second half to seal the win,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis.
The Eagles followed up with a 64-52 victory over Purnell Swett as Brock had 20 points and Surles added 13.
“Got off to great start and kept a comfortable lead,” Ellis said. “This game, we played more like a unit. Rebounding was a problem, but we made up for it with our speed and quickness.”
CFCA had scrimmages for middle school girls, middle school boys, varsity girls and varsity boys on Friday.
Ella John Dupree hit two free throws after time expired for a tie in the varsity girls Blue-White contest.
The Senior Classic opens today with the Fayetteville Christian girls playing Lee Christian at 3:30 p.m. The Fayetteville Christian boys meet Lee Christian at 5 p.m.
The CFCA girls face South Wake at 6:30 p.m. and the CFCA boys match up with the Sabres at 8 p.m.
Play continues Thursday with the girls consolation game at 4 p.m., the boys consolation game at 5:30 p.m., the girls championship at 7 p.m. and the boys final at 8:30 p.m.
