Cape Fear Christian Academy took two of three basketball games from visiting Wake Christian on Monday evening as the junior varsity boys remained unbeaten with a 75-31 victory and the varsity girls rallied for a 55-54 win.

The CFCA varsity boys were edged, 70-68, after coming back to take a lead in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Eagles (4-3) trailed 28-19 at the half.

“At the half, we got motivated to play better in front of our fans,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis. “They responded.”

Ella John Dupree made three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and led the Lady Eagles with 14 points. Perri Caroline Ennis scored the last three points for CFCA and had 10 points.

Wake Christian (4-6) had a final possession to take the lead, but the Eagles successfully protected the advantage after the Bulldogs took a timeout with just over 10 seconds to go..

Savannah Autry had 10 points, keeping the hosts within striking distance with eight points in the first half.

Meredith Taylor had six of her eight points in the fourth quarter. Kristina Kennedy hit a pair of threes for six points, including one from the left wing in the final period. Niah Torres also dropped a three in the last quarter. Madeline Brocious and Glenna McLamb added two points each.

Varsity boys play Bulldogs closer

The varsity boys lost, 84-55, at Wake Christian on November 22, the night after a defeat at Greenfield, but competed much better at home with some rest in the second meeting with the Bulldogs.

Zeke Brock had 33 points to lead the Eagles on Monday night. Brandon Surles had 15 points. Lathan Wilborn scored eight. Elijah Ellis had seven points. Scarborough had three points and Justin Chestnut scored two.

The CFCA upper school teams were scheduled to play at Fayetteville Christian on Tuesday but those games were moved to January 18 to avoid a conflict with exams.
