Cape Fear Christian Academy swept its Southeastern Middle School Athletic Conference basketball matchups on Friday with Fayetteville Christian while its upper school teams went on the road to take on South Wake at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina.
CFCA was dealt an 86-77 loss in the varsity boys contest despite 41 points from junior guard Zeke Brock, who is averaging 33.7 points per game while hitting 50 percent of his field goal attempts.
“The boys fought hard, but we were outrebounded,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis.
Brandon Surles scored 15 points and Caden Scarborough added eight at the Eagles slipped to 5-11.
The Lady Eagles are 4-7 after a 51-24 loss at South Wake. The CFCA girls were defeated, 54-13, by South Wake in the Senior Classic on November 9.
“The girls made progress,” Ellis said. “The offense and defense looked much better.”
Ella John Dupree scored nine points on Friday. Meredith Taylor had six points and Perri Caroline Ennis added five.
CFCA took a 55-51 junior varsity boys win in overtime at South Wake as Caden Scarborough had 19 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Conner Parrish had 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
The CFCA JV was topped, 54-49, at Word of God in Raleigh on Saturday as the Eagles were called for 19 fouls compared to three for the hosts.
Scarbrough had 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals as the Eagles slipped to 9-2. Kayden Dunkins had 13 points.
Middle School
Bailey Avery scored in the closing seconds to give the CFCA girls (6-1) a 23-21 win over Fayetteville Christian on Friday.
Christianna Wynns had seven points for CFCA. Avery and Lily Kate Dupree scored six each. Aubrey Horne tallied four.
Ethan Beasley had 17 points for CFCA in a 56-44 victory. Fisher Stancil tallied 12. Brandon Brooks scored nine and Cade Godwin added eight.,
The Eagles host Lee Christian for Mid-Carolina 1-A Conference middle and upper school games Tuesday.
