Cape Fear Christian Academy’s basketball teams play in conference tournaments this week.
The Eagles have earned No. 1 seedings for middle school boys, middle school girls and junior varsity boys.
On Monday, the middle school girls host Cresset at 4 p.m. in the semifinals of the Mid-Carolina Conference.
The CFCA middle school boys will be at home to take on Village in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
On Thursday at 4 p.m., the CFCA varsity girls visit Cresset in the semifinals of the MCC Tournament.
The Eagle varsity boys host Lee Christian on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the MCC semifinals as the second seed.
The CFCA JV boys will host the MCC championship on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against the winner of a semifinal matchup between Lee Christian and Crossroads.
Varsity boys
CFCA was dealt a 71-50 defeat as Zeke Brock, Wyatt Medlin and Lathan Wilborn did not play at North Raleigh Christian on Saturday.
Caden Scarborough had 17 points as the Eagles slipped to 12-14. Seung Yi Surmons scored 12 and Brandon Surles added 10.
“It wasn’t a bad effort,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis. “We played hard. We were just outmatched in terms of experience.”
Brock was out with a bruised knee sustained in a 93-81 loss to visiting Crossroads on Tuesday that dropped the Eagles to 4-2 in the Mid-Carolina Conference and assured the Colts of the No. 1 league seeding.
Brock missed most of the third quarter Thursday after banging knees with a Crossroads defender on a drive to the basket. Brock finished with 28 points and Scarborough scored 24. Surles scored 12 and Wilborn netted 10.
Wilborn had six rebounds and Surles had eight assists.
Varsity Girls
Crossroads took a 67-26 win at CFCA on Tuesday night to leave the Lady Eagles at 7-12 overall and 3-3 in the MCC.
Perri Caroline Ennis had eight points, 13 rebounds and blocked three shots for the CFCA girls.
Ella John Dupree had six points. Meredith Taylor scored five. Adding to points each were Niah Torres, Glenna McLamb and Laney Trainer. Madeline Brocious had one point.
JV Boys
CFCA improved to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in the MCC with a 60-28 win over Crossroads on Tuesday as Scarborough had 20 points, four assists and three steals.
Kayden Dunkins and Surmons had eight points each. Justin Chestnut had seven points and seven rebounds. Conner Parrish had four points, 11 rebounds, three assists and one block.
Wilborn had four points and six rebounds. Jayden Wright scored three. Elijah Ellis and Eli Burns had two points each. Brandon Brooks added one point.
Middle School Boys
The Eagles won, 51-26, at Berean Baptist on Monday, took a 66-59 loss at home to Crossroads on Tuesday and bounced back to defeat visiting Northwood Temple, 67-51, on Thursday.
CFCA is 15-2 overall and went 11-0 in the Southeastern Conference for the regular season championship.
The scoring at Berean included 10 points each from Brandon Brooks and Greyson Avent. Brooks had six rebounds. Fisher Stancil had seven points. Cade Godwin and Chris Crume had six points apiece. London Hinson and Eli Shwaikeh had four points each. Ethan Beasley and Palmer Ennis each scored two points each. Beasley had seven assists.
Brooks had 25 points on Tuesday. Stancil netted 19. Godwin scored 10. Avent had three points and Shwaikeh added two.
Stancil scored 20 points against Northwood. Godwin tallied 11. Beasley and Brooks had 10 points each. Shwaikeh had five points. Hinson had four points. Tyson Stephens scored three. Crume and Ennis added two points each.
Middle School Girls
A 3-0 week extended the winning streak to 15 games since a season-opening loss.
Bailey Avery had 11 points in a 33-8 victory at Berean. Christianna Wynns had eight points. Aubrey Horne scored seven. Lily Kate Dupree had three points. Ella Wilborn and Sailor Phillips added two points each.
In a 32-25 win at home over Crossroads on Tuesday, Avery and Wynns each had 13 points. Horne, Wilborn and Peyton Dunn scored two points apiece.
Wynns scored eight points in a 20-14 win at home over Northwood Temple on Thursday. Wilborn had three points. Horne, Dupree, Lily Stanley and Dunn had two points each. Avery added one point.
