Cape Fear Christian Academy’s middle school girls basketball team added the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament championship to its regular-season league title on Tuesday with a 24-21 win over visiting Crossroads Christian of Henderson.
Aubrey Horne hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:42 to go to put the Eagles ahead to stay at 22-19. Horne made a steal and passed to Christianna Wynns, who assisted Bailey Avery for a 5-point lead.
The Colts got within three points, but the Eagles generated a turnover on Crossroads’ last possession.
“Today was the culmination of a lot of hard and sacrifice,” said CFCA coach Ray Butts.
The Eagles went 17-1 after a season-opening loss and were 8-0 in road games. CFCA went 6-0 in the MCC and turned back Cresset, 36-17, win the league tournament semifinals on Monday.
