JV boys add MCC tournament title to regular-season crown

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s junior varsity boys basketball team added the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament championship to its regular season title with a 65-52 win over visiting Crossroads Christian of Henderson on Friday.

The Eagles went 15-2 overall and were 6-0 against MCC opponents.

CFCA had a 29-28 lead at halftime Friday, making just three of 10 free throws.

“We talked about free throws at halftime,” said Eagles coach Matthew Beasley.

CFCA made 11 of 16 from the line in the second half and began to pull away in the third quarter with Kayden Dunkins’ help from beyond the arc.

Dunkins hit five of 12 threes and led the win offensively with 18 points.

Justin Chestnut had his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Seung Surmons had 14 points. Caden Scarborough totaled 13 points and five assists.

Conner Parrish contributed three points and eight rebounds. Elijah Ellis had three points and Lathan Wilborn had two points on a resounding dunk to finish a fast break in the first quarter.
