Eagle teams advance to NCISAA quarterfinals

Cape Fear Christian Academy took a pair of varsity basketball victories in the second round of the NCISAA playoffs on Thursday.

The CFCA boys won, 77-69, at Lawrence Academy as Zeke Brock and Brandon Surles each scored 25 points. The Eagles (14-15) visit Northside Christian on Saturday at 8 p.m..

The Lady Eagles turned back visiting United Faith, 40-18, as Perri Caroline Ennis had 14 points. The CFCA girls (9-13) play at Pungo Christian on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The CFCA boys led 40-30 at the half, but the hosts rallied to lead in the fourth quarter. The Eagles were able to restore their advantage in the closing minutes.

Lathan Wilborn had 12 points off the bench to help CFCA advance.

The Lady Eagles overcame a slow start, scoring just two points in the first quarter.

Ella John Dupree had eight points. Kristina Kennedy scored six. Meredith Taylor and Madeline Brocious added four points each. Laney Trainer and Courtney Butts tallied two points apiece.

United Faith stopped the game early in the fourth quarter when the Falcons were down to three players.
