Madeline Brocious (11) and Perri Caroline Ennis seek rebounding position at Pungo.

Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity basketball teams lost out in the NCISAA 1-A quarterfinals on Saturday against high seeds on the road.

The Lady Eagles played at the No. 1 seed, Pungo Christian of Belhaven, and sustained a 70-43 setback.

The CFCA boys ventured to second-seeded Northside Christian of Charlotte, which advanced by a 94-57 margin.

Eagles coach Dwain Ellis was on hand for the 1 p.m. game in Belhaven before traveling to Charlotte for an 8 p.m. tipoff.

Perri Caroline Ennis had 13 points for the CFCA girls (9-14). Ella John Dupree and Glenna McLamb scored 10 points each.

“PC started slow,” Ellis said. “She got going in the middle of the first, then got in foul trouble and we had to sit her for awhile. … EJ handled the pressure well. Glenna got to the line. We were down 12 at the half.”

Zeke Brock led the Eagle boys (14-16) with 14 points. Kayden Dunkins scored 10. Justin Chestnut had eight points and Brandon Surles added seven.

“Physically, athletically and talent-wise, we were outmatched,” Ellis said. “They were very good.”
