Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity baseball team took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and went on to defeat visiting Wayne Preparatory Academy of Goldsboro, 14-7, on Tuesday.

Cason Pope’s RBI double scored Zeke Brock to put the Eagles (3-1) ahead to stay.

CFCA totaled 15 hits as Brock, Eli Burns, Pope, Trevor McLamb, Rhett Alphin and Cole Godwin each had two hits.

Connor Shirley, Landon McLamb and Elijah Ellis had one hit each for the Eagles.

Burns, Pope, Trevor McLamb, Alphin and Godwin each had two RBIs. Shirley, Landon McLamb and Conner Parrish had one RBI apiece.

Burns started on the mound and pitched three scoreless innings with six strikeouts and no walks while allowing one hit.

Pope, Alphin and Fisher Stancil also had pitching stints.

The Generals (0-3) totaled six hits.

CFCA returns to action on Tuesday with a Mid-Carolina Conference home game against Lee Christian at 4 p.m.
