Coach, alumnus capture 5Ks in annual Isaiah Run

Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity girls basketball coach Ray Butts was the fastest finisher in the Isaiah 40:31 run at the school on Saturday, May 4, as he covered the five-kilometer course up Erwin Chapel Road and back to campus in 21 minutes and 48 seconds from the starting gun to the finish line.

Dunn residents took the top three places as Scott Culbreth was second in 22:16 and Joseph Jernigan finished third in 22:34.

CFCA alumnus Emily Devane Reynolds, who resides in Winston-Salem, was the fastest female despite pushing a cvarriage with her 3-uear old son as she was timed in 25:55.

Jennifer Burdette of Fuquay-Varina was the second woman in 26:25. CFCA student Kaitlyn Ammons, who runs cross country for the Eagles, was third in the female division in 28:03.

CFCA multi-sport athlete Zeke Brock was first in the mile run in 5:40. Second went to fellow senior Jakson Cullen (6:05) and Jonathan Stephens was third in 6:54.

Ammons was first among females in 6:55. Jax Wright was second in 736 and Olivia Epps claimed third (7:36)/

The Isaiah Run began in 2010 and has been held every year but 2020 and 2021.

There were 36 runners completing the 5K in 2024 and 51 who ran the mile.
