CFCA competes at Cresset, busy week ahead

Cape Fear Christian Academy had Mid-Carolina Conference matches at Cresset of Durham on Friday, taking competitive varsity losses in boys soccer and volleyball.

CFCA improved to 2-0 in middle school volleyball with a 2-0 win (25-21, 23-19).

The varsity volleyball team slipped to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the MCC with a 3-2 loss. Set scores were 25-23, 15-25, 25-21, 26-28 and 13-15.

CFCA visits Lee Christian on Tuesday for MCC middle school, junior varsity and varsity volleyball matches.

All three teams will be hosting Neuse Christian on Thursday. The JV and varsity will be home on Friday to play Riverside.

Boys soccer

The Eagles fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play despite having 21 shots on goal, including 11 by Caden Scarborough.

“We just couldn’t find the back of the net,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish.

CFCA’s shots on goal included three by Cade Godwin and two by Tyson Stephens.

Gunner Dorman and Lathan Wilborn each had one shot on goal.

Parrish credited the defensive play of Conner Parrish, Chris Crume, Wilborn and Eli Burns.

Justin Chestnut had six saves in goal.

The Eagles host Christ the Cornerstone today (August 26) and resume MCC play on Tuesday at Lee Christian. CFCA hosts Neuse Christian for a nonconference match Thursday.
