Eagles sweep soccer at Lee Christian, take two of three in volleyball

Cape Fear Christian Academy took four of five in Mid-Carolina Conference matchups at Lee Christian on Tuesday.

In middle school contests, the Eagles won, 3-2, in soccer and, 2-0 (25-16, 26-9), in volleyball.

The junior varsity volleyball team prevailed, 2-0 (25-23, 25-19) to improve to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MCC.

Lee remained unbeaten in varsity volleyball with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-15). Lee is 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the MCC. CFCA (1-4, 1-2 MCC) was without senior Hailey Wangelin, didn’t make the trip due to a fever.

Boys soccer

Caden Scarborough scored on a penalty kick for CFCA at 77:58 for a 2-1 win. The Falcons were called for a hand ball on a strike by Fisher Stancil after a corner kick.

The Eagles evened their record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the MCC.

Gunner Dorman had a goal in the first half for a 1-0 Eagles advantage.

Lee (1-2, 1-2) tied the score in the 67th minute.

Scarborough had 10 shots on goal. Dorman had four shots on goal. Thomas Honeycutt and Tyson Stephens each had two shots on goal. Micah Andemichael and Cade Godwin each had one shot on goal.

A red card forced the Eagles to play a man down for the last 58 minutes.

Justin Chestnut had two saves on three Lee shots as Conner Parrish, Chris Crume, Eli Burns, Lathan Wilborn and Stancil were credited defensively.

CFCA improved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference in middle school play as Brandon Shwaikeh had two goals and an assist on a goal by Brandon Young.
