Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys soccer team was assured of at least a share of the Mid-Carolina Conference regular season championship on a golden goal by Caden Scarborough at 6:50 into overtime to provide a 3-2 victory over visiting Crossroads on Thursday.
CFCA overcame a 2-0 deficit at halftime to 9-2-1 overall and 7-1 in the MCC.
The Eagles downed the Colts, 2-0, in the middle school portion of the doubleheader for sole possession of the MCC regular season title.

Crossroads (7-6, 4-4 MCC) revised its defensive strategy from a 3-2 loss to the Eagles in Henderson on September 20.
“They took away our through ball,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish. “We adjusted at halftime and played much better feet to feet.”
Gunner Dorman scored early in the second half with an assist from Scarborough to shift the momentum to the Eagles.
Scarborough provided the tying score as his bending corner kick was partially deflected by the keeper before trickling across the goal line.
Scarborough got the deciding goal after a series of moves to get one of his six shots on goal. He angled the game winner to the left side of the goal with sufficient force to find the net despite a deflection by the goalie.
Dorman had three shots on goal. Tyson Stephens had two shots on goal. Parrish credited the play of Thomas Honeycutt in the midfield.
Justin Chestnut had five saves including a stop on a penalty kick, continuing to improve in his first season on the pitch.
“Our defense was solid in the second half and in the overtime play,” Parrish said. ” … Conner Parrish was huge for us today at sweeper. Chris Crume, Eli Burns and Micah Andemichael were also great defensively. All three faced some very physical play today from the Colts and they were all up for the challenge.
“Lathan Wilborn again held one of the best scorers to only one goal today. He marked him most of the game and shut him down after halftime.”
CFCA will have a match at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the MCC Tournament semifinal.

Eli Shwaikeh converted a pair of first-half penalty kicks to account for the scoring.
Jayce Barker was in goal for the shutout as the Eagles improved to 4-0 in the MCC.
CFCA will play for the MCC middle school tournament championship at home on Tuesday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Lee Christian’s match at Crossroads on Monday.
