Visiting Crossroads Christian of Henderson ended a 10-game unbeaten streak for Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity boys soccer team by a 2-1 margin in the semifinals of the Mid-Carolina Conference tournament on Thursday.
After a scoreless first half, the Colts (8-6) took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by freshman Ben Adcock.
The Eagles (9-3-1) cut the lead in half on a penalty kick by Caden Scarborough after Gunner Dorman was fouled in the box.
CFCA had rallied for a pair of 3-2 wins over Crossroads during the regular season, but the Colts packed back on defense with the lead in the third meeting and were able to advance to a berth in the league final.
Scarborough had six shots on goal Thursday. Cade Godwin and Tyson Stephens each had one shot on goal.
CFCA turns its focus to the NCISAA 1-A tournament. The bracket will be released Sunday.
The streak that ended Thursday included a 4-1 win over Cresset, which shared the regular season MCC title with CFCA. Cresset hosts Crossroads in the MCC Tournament final today.
