Cape Fear Christian Academy’s girls tennis team earned a berth in the NCISAA 1-A championship for the third straight year with a 5-1 win over visiting Oakwood on Tuesday.

The Eagles won two of three doubles as Ells Butts and Lily Kate Dupree prevailed at No. 2 as Addison Lanpher and Ava Jones took the No. 3 match.

Singles winners for CFCA included Karson Hamilton at No. 1, Savannah Autry at No. 3 and Jones at No. 6.

Three singles matches were not completed after the team outcome was decided.

“We played well as a team,” said Eagles coach Page Jackson. “Winning two out of three doubles was important. We’ve been working a lot in practice on doubles.”

CFCA will play Lawrence at North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the state final.

Hamilton is the only senior. The top six includes one junior, one sophomore, two freshman and an eighth-grader.

“It’s great to be going back to play for a state championship,” Jackson said. ” We are a fairly young team and have worked hard this year.”

Karson Hamilton won her last home match in the No. 1 singles.
