Ro’mello Pegues scored 29 points for Triton on Thursday night in a 75-50 All American Conference varsity boys basketball win at Overhills.

It was a huge swing for the Hawks from an 82-52 loss to the Jaguars in the semifinals of the Bennie Pollack Memorial Tournament at Harnett Central on November 19.

“Our guys seemed to play a little more inspired,” said Triton coach T.J. Morrison. “Overhills is a good team. They didn’t shoot as well as the first time we played.”

Led by a 10 for 13 shooting performance by Pegues, the Hawks shot 57 percent from the floor in improving to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in the AAC.

Demarbiaz Devane and Jamaury Taylor had 15 points each for Triton. Brandon Surles had nine points and seven assists.

Terrance Williams had five points and nine rebounds. Devane grabbed eight rebounds and Taylor pulled down seven.

The Hawks were on top 17-11 after eight minutes and outscored the hosts in every quarter.

Overhills made 32 of 58 field goal attempts on November 19 for 55 percent. That figure dipped to 30 percent (18 for 61) in the second meeting.

Ja’von Motta led Overhills (10-4, 3-3 AAC) with 16 points and Caleb Ross added 14.

Najiha Allen had 35 points for the Overhills girls in a 77-47 win over Triton.

The games were originally scheduled for Friday but were moved up a night due to the approaching winter weather system.

The Hawks continue league play on Tuesday at Harnett Central.
