Eagle JV boys prevent sweep by visiting Harrells

The Cape Fear Christian Academy varsity boys basketball team lost its first game at home of the season on Monday night to Harrells Christian, 79-47.

The Crusaders (19-2) are ranked No. 2 among NCISAA 2-A teams by MaxPreps.

“They are one of the best teams in the state,” said CFCA coach Dwain Ellis, who cited a pivotal second quarter in which the Eagles were outscored, 20-6.

CFCA (13-6) is No. 3 in the NCISAA 1-A rankings.

Kayden Dunkins had 21 points for the Eagles and Caden Scarborough added 13.

Cade Godwin scored five points. Eli Burns and Justin Chestnut had four points each. Lathan Wilborn tallied two.

Varsity Girls

Harrells used a late push for a 45-39 win despite 17 points by Glenna McLamb.

“We gave it our all,” said CFCA coach Ray Butts. “Fewer turnovers and a few more made shots would have made the difference.”

The Lady Eagles are without Savannah Autry, who was averaging 10 points and seven rebounds before her lower left arm was fractured.

Lily Kate Dupree had seven points on Monday. Mary Andemichael and Ella Wilborn each had four points. Megan Harrold scored three points.

JV Boys

The Eagles improved to 5-1 with a 66-49 win as Wilborn had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Cade Godwin had 13 points for CFCA.

Taylor Smith had 10 points. Burns finished with eight points and six rebounds.

Eli Shwaikeh had eight points. Fisher Stancil scored seven. Parker Mclamb had two points and Tyson Stephens had one point.

The Eagles return to Mid-Carolina Conference play with JV and varsity games against Crossroads on Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
