Eli Shwaikeh scored 34 points for Cape Fear Christian Academy in a 38-30 win over visiting Crossroads Christian of Henderson in the championship game of the Mid-Carolina Conference middle school boys basketball tournament on Tuesday.
The Eagled led 21-17 at the half but Crossroads rallied to take a lead. CFCA came back, outscoring the Colts 10-5 in the fourth quarter.
CFCA went 15-1, splitting nonconference matchups with O’Neal of Southern Pines.
“Eli Shwaikeh led this team all year,” said Eagles coach Ron Barefoot. “When you take a special kid and surround him with 12 other special kids who are willing to give it all they can, the season is nothing short of special. Proud of these kids.”
Jayce Barker scored two points as CFCA atoned for a loss to Crossroads in the MCC tournament final last season. Luke Meyer and Ben Thompson added one point each.
