Spring sports report: Eagles close week with softball no-hitter at Pungo

Gardner-Webb signee Glenna McLamb did not allow a hit or a walk for Cape Fear Christian Academy’s varsity softball team in a 14-0 win in six innings at Pungo on Friday.

The Eagles are 7-0 and are ranked No. 12 among all high school softball teams in the state by MaxPreps.CFCA is the top-ranked NCISAA 1-A team.

McLamb had 14 strikeouts. The Eagles committed one error.

Megan Harrold had two triples and three RBIs.

CFCA had 13 hits as Hailey Wangelin (double) and Hailey Dupree (two runs) had two hits each.

Getting one hit each on Friday were Maddi Herring, Caylee Braswell, Lily Dunn, McLamb, Tee McKoy and Larah Tripp.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Lawrence on Monday at 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Varsity Baseball

The Eagles absorbed an 8-3 loss at 2-A Village on Thursday night to slip to 7-5 for the season.

Eli Guinn had two home runs for the Knights (9-5).

“We were in the game until the fourth inning when they scored four runs,” said CFCA coach Bill Parrish. “We were trailing 3-2 before that.

“Village is a mature team with four seniors.”

The Eagles generally are younger — with no seniors.

Getting two hits each for CFCA were Mason Gregory (double) and Conner Parrish.

Tyson Stephens, Eli Burns and Taylor Smith also had hits for the Eagles.

CFCA is scheduled to host Lawrence on Monday at 4 p.m., weather permitting.

Varsity Girls Soccer

CFCA hosted Bradford for a Mid-Carolina Conference match on Friday with the Archers posting a 5-1 win.

Courtney Butts had the goal for the Eagles.

CFCA will host Lee Christian on Tuesday for a middle school/varsity doubleheader, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
