Balanced scoring helped Harnett Central overcome a 28-point effort by Smithfield-Selma’s Anthony Council in a 71-67 nonconference road win for the Trojans varsity boys basketball team on Friday night.
Trevonne Williams led Central (4-4) with 17 points on six for nine field goal shooting. Croix Shipman and Justin Perkins had 13 points each. Chase Mullins added 13 points.
Shipman had six rebounds and four assists. Mullins also grabbed six rebounds.
SSS (4-8) led 15-10 after eight minutes but Central outscored the hosts, 26-8, in the second quarter. The Trojans held on as the Spartans had a 24-14 scoring edge in the final period.
Kasey Perkins and Austin Swan had seven points apiece for the Trojans, who host East Wake on Tuesday night.
Harnett Central’s girls improved to 6-2 with a 62-39 win.
