Cape Fear Christian Academy has had six student-athletes in fall sports named to all-state teams by the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association.

Seventh-grader Carolina Wynns made all-state in girls golf by tying for sixth in the NCISAA Division II tournament at Keith Hills on October 21-22. CFCA won the team title in that event.

The Eagles captured the NCISAA 1-A girls tennis championship at North Carilina Wesleyan on October 26. CFCA’s top three singles players — Karson Hamilton, Ella Butts and Savannah Autry — made all-state. Hamilton, a senior, was a repeat selection.

Caden Scarborough was chosen all-state for the third time, first making the unit as a freshman on CFCA’s state champion team in boys soccer in 2022. Scarborough had 21 goals with nine assists in as a junior in 2024 as the Eagles went 9-4-1 overall, shared the regular season championship in the Mid-Carolina Conference and played in the NCISAA 1-A quarterfinals.

Conner Parrish made all-state as a junior. His defensive play was vital during a 10-game unbeaten streak during which the Eagles yielded only 13 goals, an average of 1.3 per match. The EAgles scored 37 goals during that span.

Winter sports

All of the all-state performers are involved in winter sports at CFCA. Wynns is playing for the middle school girls basketball team. Butts and Hamilton are cheerleaders. Autry is playing varsity girls basketball. Scarborough and Parrish are on the varsity boys basketball team.

The Eagles have new middle school coaches, Jeremy McKoy for the girls and Ron Barefoot for the boys.

Brandon Shwaikeh has returned to CFCA to coach the junior varsity boys basketball team after a year at Coats-Erwin, un which he guided the Falcons to a championship season.

Ray Butts and Dwain Ellis are returning as varsity coaches of the girls and boys respectively.

Former Triton swimmer Ashley Wachtel is the new CFCA swim coach.

The Eagles host O’Neal on Tuesday for middle school basketball games and will be at home to take on Kerr-Vance in varsity matchups on Thursday.

The hoops teams had Blue-White scrimmages on Friday.
