BUIES CREEK — A pair of streaking teams combined to drop the Buies Creek Astros out of first place in the Carolina League Southern Division first half baseball race on Tuesday night.

Myrtle Beach topped the Astros 7-4 at Jim Perry Stadium for the Pelicans’ fourth straight win. Winston-Salem topped visiting Salem 6-5 for its fifth straight win.

The outcomes left the Astros (32-25) a half-game behind the Dash (33-25) in the standings. Down East (31-26) is 1.5 games out of first.

Ronnie Dawson hit his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot, to get Buies Creek on the scoreboard in the fourth inning.
