Athletes celebrated as Eagles claim WF Cup

Cape Fear Christian Academy recognized athletes for spring sports and end of the year awards at a banquet in the school gym on Monday.

CFCA won the Wells Fargo Cup for overall athletic performance in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A class with the Division 3 softball championship Tuesday at North Carolina Wesleyan.

The Wells Fargo Cup was the first for the school.

The Eagles were state runners-up in boys golf at Jamestown Park Golf Club with Ben Thompson and Cade Godwin making all-state.

Larah Tripp won the Division 3 championship in the shot put at Wingate and eighth-grader Kaitlyn Ammons was second in the high jump as each earned all-state recognition.

All-state honors from CFCA in baseball went to Fisher Stancil and Conner Parrish.

All-state in softball from the Eagles included Megan Harrold, Kristina Kennedy, Glenna McLamb and Hailey Wangelin.

Scholar-Athlete awards for Uppoer School went to Caden Scarborough and Larah Tripp.
